Healthy Eating Animation
During the Summer term 2008, children at Chilmark and Fonthill Bishop Primary Schools took part in a series of workshops with ArtCare's Lesley Meaker and Penny Robbins. This "Arts 4 Life" project involved pupils researching different aspects of healthy eating:- healthy menus, health issues of allergies/food poisoning, balanced diets, food labelling, 5 fruit and veg a day.
They used this information to create a storyboard. As soon as the scripts had been written the animating process began. Some groups chose to work with 3D plasticine models while others preferred the digital media approach, incorporating sound and narrative into their films.
This animation project gave children, their parents and teachers, the opportunity to meet with professionals working in the fields of nutrition and media. Principles of healthy eating were made accessible to children through storytelling - words and pictures.
'As the children's class teacher it has been a wonderful opportunity that I am grateful to have been a part of'
Their presentations were performed at other schools and these helped to build confidence in the children participating. It is thanks to these guys that this knowledge has been passed on to others with adults and children alike.
